H.E. Mr. Kembi-Gitura joined other Kenyans living in Belgium for a pre-Jamhuri day event that took place on Saturday 11 December 2010 at the ACP House (Av. Georges Henri 451, 1200 Brussels). The event had been organized by the recently registered Association of the Kenyan Diaspora in Belgium & Luxembourg (AKDBL) to bring together the Kenyan Diaspora to share the celebratory mood of the National Day, and also to conduct a registration drive for those not yet registered in the association.

Other than the recruitment drive, the event was aimed at raising awareness amongst the Diaspora on topical issues affecting Kenyans. Two documentaries: "Kikulacho - The Bite Within", which is on the ills of corruption and another one on “Slum Survivors”, featuring the plight of slum dwellers in Kibera, were screened to the audience. The latter documentary is about a philanthropic Kenyan who has dedicated his resources to uplift the slum dwellers out of poverty by starting a free school for girls education in the slum, under a programme dubbed: Kibera Girls Soccer Academy.

In his remarks to the gathering, H.E Mr. Kembi-Gitura thanked Kenyans for demonstrating their solidarity by attending the pre-Jamhuri day celebrations, organized by the Embassy, and noted with pride that when he looked into the crowd during the celebrations, he saw proud Kenyans singing their national anthem with great enthusiasm. He also talked to them on the implementation of the new constitution and emphasized that the Diaspora stands to benefit a lot from the new constitution. Later on the Ambassador fielded questions from the Diaspora on general matters of interest to Kenyans living in Belgium.
