  • Kenyan students participate in Ledeganck Handball Tournament 23/07/2010

    H.E Ambassador Kembi-Gitura attended the opening ceremony of the Ledeganck handball tournament, held on 2 July 2010 in Eeklo.

    The tournament had 700 participants from 6 different countries, including Kenya, which was the first African country to be invited to the event. Kenya had 53 students participating in the event from Mt. Kenya Academy and Mt. Kenya handball club. The students were accompanied by four leaders.

    On arrival at the event, H.E the Ambassador held an informal meeting with the very enthusiastic Kenyan students and their leaders, and thereafter had a photo session with them.

    H.E the Ambassador was thereafter welcomed at the city’s town hall, where he was met by the Alderman in charge of Finance and other senior officials of the city. In their discussions, the Ambassador expressed gratitude for the SOS village-Kisumu project, which is supported by several citizens of Eeklo. During the event, five hundred (500) Euros was donated towards the project and would be delivered by the community in due course. H.E the Ambassador encouraged the sponsors of the project to take time to visit the project in Kenya as well as other parts of Kenya.

    Following various performances at the event, H.E the Ambassador assisted the city’s Alderman in charge of Finance to unveil the trophy of the event, to much excitement. During his brief address, H.E the Ambassador reiterated his gratitude for the support received by the Kenyan project, and urged the sponsors to visit the project and Kenya in general. He thereafter wished all the participants success.
