Young golfers shine at Kenya Day golf tournament 16/07/2010
Young golfers scooped top prices at the Kenya Day Golf Tournament that took place at the Overijse Golf Club on Saturday 10 July 2010. The first prize in the first category, comprising of a return air ticket Brussels – Nairobi – Brussels, coupled with a one-week holiday safari for two in Kenya, went to Mr. Thomas Simoens. Mr. Simoens will also have the opportunity to play in some selected wonderful golf courses in Kenya during this period. The first prize in the second category, a return air ticket Amsterdam – Nairobi – Amsterdam for two and a five-day safari in Kenya, was scooped by another young golfer, Arnaud Piers. These wonderful prizes were donated by SN Brussels, Kenya Airways, Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) and Terre d’Afrique, who were some of the sponsors for the tournament.

In total, one hundred and four (104) golfers participated in this highly successful tournament, which took place under the scorching summer heat of 350 C. As they went round the course, golfers were treated to special Kenyan bitings of samosas and mandazi, washed down by a cup of fine Kenyan tea or coffee. At the reception held at the same venue later on in the evening, guests sampled delicious Kenyan dishes including Nyama Choma, Kachumbari and Kuku Choma. All guests received a bouquet of the best Kenya rose flowers at the end of it all. The flowers were presented to each guest by the Kenya Flower Council CEO, Mrs. Jane Nginge.

Overijse Golf Club managers expressed their satisfaction and lauded the Embassy for successfully hosting the tournament. They informed that the club was proud to be associated with the Embassy and that it will always be ready to avail its facilities to the embassy for future similar events. On his part, H.E. Amb. Kembi – Gitura thanked them for allowing the Embassy to once again host a Kenya Golf Day tournament at the club. He also thanked all the competitors and other friends of Kenya present in the occasion. He particularly congratulated the winners and wished those who won top prizes and would be visiting Kenya soon an enjoyable safari and thrilling rounds of golf in some of the world class courses. The Ambassador also expressed his profound gratitude to organizations and individuals who had partnered with the embassy to sponsor the event.
