  • Diaspora Policy 21/01/2015

The Kenyan government has developed a Diaspora Policy in recognition of the urgent need to mainstream the Kenyan Diaspora into the national development process, in line with the aspirations and goals of the Kenya Vision 2030.

The Kenya Vision 2030 recognises Diaspora contribution as a major enabler to the growth of the economy, and a critical factor in the achievement of the overarching vision of a globally competitive and prosperous Kenya by the year 2030. It is in recognition of this imperative that development of a Diaspora Policy was identified as one of the Kenya Vision 2030 flagship projects.

Some of the key interventions proposed in this Policy Paper are: curbing the high cost of remittances, improving consular services to address issues of Kenyans abroad, using the Kenyans abroad to promote tourism, tapping into Diaspora talents to reverse the current brain drain, and designing a dedicated web portal to facilitate collection of data and profiles of Kenyans abroad for proper planning and engagement.
