Courtesy Call on West Flanders Governor Carl Decaluwe 15/01/2014
Ambassador Johnson Weru paid a courtesy call on H.E Carl Decaluwé, governor of West Flanders, at his office in Brugge on Monday 13 January 2014. The general director of the Flanders Marine Institute, Prof. Dr. Jan Mees, was also present. The parties discussed issues of mutual interest between the two countries.
The Flemish government last year donated a marine research vessel to the government of Kenya. The vessel, MV Mtafiti, arrived in Kenya in October 2013 and is currently under use by the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute. The vessel will contribute significantly to exploitation of Kenya’s and regional ocean floor and marine resources.
Ambassador Weru presented an official invitation from the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Hon. Felix Koskei, to the commissioning ceremony for MV Mtafiti, scheduled for 27 January 2014 in Mombasa, Kenya.
Other areas of discussion were collaboration in marine research, scholarships for Kenyan and East African students, agriculture and trade facilitation, and expanding business opportunities for mutual business and investments from Kenya.
